Tis the Season to Rock

Hi all

EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY FOR TOMORROW WE WATCH THE WITCHER

For some of us, the festive season is knocking on our doorstep, and we’re taking a much needed break before the last death throes of 2019.

I’m not religious, but I do love all the festive stuff that comes from appropriated Pagan feast days, so you bet I am eating ALL THE THINGS, and I have the tree and the lights up and the gifts all wrapped and ready. Having grown up in South Africa, my Xmas day was always warm, seaside braais, watermelon and salads, white wine and pimms cocktails because why not? With a distinctly Danish background, we’d do our main (Northern Hemisphere style) feast on the 24th, and have a huge roasted dinner with so many potatoes, and my favourite thing - risalamande. Sadly for me, I think I’ve won the almond prize once in the last decade, whereas my youngest spawn has won the damn thing three years in a row now.

Now that I live in Scotland, the rich, comfort food makes so much more sense, and I am eagerly prepping the last of my shopping list and getting ready to FEAST.

And watch the Witcher. Which I’ll start today, and not tomorrow, because I can.

GET YOUR ROCKS OFF, GET YOUR ROCKS OFF, HONEY

In other news, my Wolfpack friend, Jessie Rose, has written a novel, ATOMIC LOVE. It’s a memoir of a (fictional) wife of a (fictional) rock god, although, if you lived through the 80s and 90s, you’ll definitely spot shades of various hard rock icons. The book is daaaaaaark af, and doesn’t hold back with looking at how women were demonised by both the bands they supported, and the media around them. It was weird reading it, and seeing those things that you half-remember from your teens, and looking through them in the light of how things have changed.

Los Angeles, 1986. Jenny Stone, a blossoming art student, is lured into the L.A. underground by a blue-haired, goth street artist with a purse full of drugs and a not-so-lucky rabbit’s foot. Lost, she lands at the feet of charismatic rock star, Evan Reed. Not a Sunset glam rocker, Evan is the lead singer of rock n’ roll’s loudest, angriest band, embodying the dark side of the “The Strip.” Handsome, charming and enthralled with the young artist, he wants her paintings—then he wants her. A dangerous cocktail of narcissistic love bombing and manipulation keeps her in his orbit. His demons and need for control threaten every aspect of their lives together. There were warnings, one red flag after another. Yet, Jenny is pulled into money, fame, and excess. Will she survive or succumb to the violence that surrounds her? Atomic Love is Sharp Objects meets heavy metal memoir and will appeal to fans of Emma Cline and Gillian Flynn. (Trigger warning: This book contains graphic scenes of violence, sexual assault & the death of a child).*Atomic Love is a faux memoir and is not based on real persons or events.*

Definitely a great read if you were ever a fan of bands like Guns n Roses, Cinderella, Skid Row, etc.

I hope you all have a good last few weeks of the year, however you choose to spend them, and that you are surrounded with love, happiness, creativity, and the things you enjoy.

Til next year
