Tropes and Appearances

or, where I am and what I'm doing

Hey all,

It’s been a long, hard start to the year and I’ve fallen behind on quite a few things, but I am still alive, so that’s always a bonus. And, reading between the twitter lines, and the fb lines, and the instragram stories, a lot of people are struggling right now.

I hope that, if you are one of those people, you get through this. That you manage to get sleep and a meal, and you wake up every morning.

Sometimes, that’s all we can ask of ourselves.

But going back to the whole not being dead thing, I have proof!

I have a load of tropes I love reading, using, and generally molesting. There’s so much you can do with a good tropes (and probably even more with a bad one :D). If you have any favourite tropes, tell us about them.

If you’re in Edinburgh on the 12th of March, I’ll be one of the people in the rather fabulous Shoreline of Infinity EVENT HORIZON lineup.

I’ll be reading an extract from my novelette Even When the World Has Told Us We Have Ended, which, if you’re vaguely interested in specfic retellings of Rapunzel—featuring dead humans made of memories, and living humans made of inspiration—is available free to read here.

And that’s it for today’s newsletter. I’m working on the first draft of a novel, and that is a long and laborious process which gives little scope for Exciting! News!

Hopefully, I ‘ll see a few of you at Event Horizon, so if you come through, say hi.
